For the month of December, the Global Support Meeting will be held on the first Friday of the month, December 1st at 2 PM EST. This month we will be reviewing the past year, all of the developments and successes, and sharing some data and insights about the Academy from 2023. We look forward to seeing you there!
This week we are featuring another member of the Advisory Council! Dr. Cheryl Jones, Registered Psychotherapist, MTA, PhD, works as a music therapist with individuals who have sustained an acquired brain injury or who are living with a neurodegenerative disorder. Dr. Jones earned her PhD in Music and Health Sciences at the University of Toronto where she was also a member of the Collaborative Program in Neuroscience (CPIN). She holds her Master of Music Therapy from Wilfrid Laurier University with a focus on music-centred psychotherapy and is a registered psychotherapist. She has advanced training in Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT), is a Neurologic Music Therapist-Fellow, and serves on the advisory council for the Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy. Dr. Jones has taught in the music therapy departments at Wilfrid Laurier University, Concordia University, and most recently at the University of Miami. She is a regular guest lecturer at conferences and universities. Her clinical work has been featured in 2 national CBC radio documentaries and in a book, Allison’s Brain. Dr. Jones has published several articles and book chapters regarding the use of music therapy to address a range of goal areas.
We will be hosted by the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado, USA to hold an NMT Training from March 7-10th, 2024. Register by December 1st, 2023 to receive the Early Bird Discount!
The 2nd International Clinical Consensus Symposium was an exciting two days of global exchange through scholarly discussion, research presentations, and sharing of clinical advances between an international community of Neuroscience Researchers, Neurologic Music Therapists and Allied Health Professionals. Thank you to all of the incredible presenters who shared their knowledge and to all of you who attended.
The Academy will be holding its first East Asian NMT Training, online from February 14-25th, 2024. This training will be held for those living in East Asian time zones with translation into Japanese, Chinese, and Korean. It will take place through a combination of asynchronous training modules, to be completed on your own and synchronous practice sessions with the Academy’s teaching faculty. This past week, Dr Thaut presented on Neurologic Music Therapy at the RCI-accredited National Conference on Aging at the Kasturba Medical College in Mangaluru, India. The conference focused on best practices for the early identification of age-related speech, language, cognition, swallowing, and hearing disorders among geriatrics. The conference hosted Dr Thaut as well as Dr Nirmal Surya, president of the Indian Federation of Neurorehabilitation, and Dr S P Goswami, president of Indian Speech and Hearing Association.
